Canada’s financial regulators have unveiled a comprehensive draft framework for stablecoin issuers, introducing stringent consumer protection measures and operational guidelines. Under the proposed rules, issuers must cap redemption fees at a maximum of one percent and are strictly prohibited from offering yield-bearing products to users. Furthermore, issuers are required to maintain a one-to-one backing of high-quality, liquid assets held in Canadian custody to ensure continuous liquidity and stability. These proactive guidelines aim to integrate digital assets safely into the traditional financial ecosystem while mitigating systemic risks and protecting retail investors from sudden market volatility.
